The film 1408 is based on a short story of Stephen King of the same title. I watched it with my colleague slash movie buddy. Even though I was discouraged by my sister to watch the film, I still watched it because I want to see how scary it is. :D This is not the type of movie that will scare you because of horrifying images. It will scare you because of paranoia.

Unlike other horror movies, this one is quite unpredictable. It’s like your eyes are glued to the screen even if you wanted to close it for there’s something that might happen that could scare the hell out of you.

To give you a brief background of the film, 1408 is not a year. It is a certain hotel room in Dolphin Hotel, New York City. Mike Enslin (portrayed by John Cusack) is a paranormal writer and he decided to stay in the hotel room even if he’s already warned by the hotel manager (portrayed by Samuel Jackson). The rumors that have been told about this hotel room were proven during his brief stay there.

Rating:
Horror factor: 4.5 out of 5
Cinematography: 3.5 out of 5
Overall rating: 4 out of 5

    Dear Ms. Karla,
I am a Japanese man who loves Sinosikat? and I reached at your blog when I was getting info about this band. This is a quite interesting blog and there are lots of info about rock bands in Philippines. I’d like to know more about rock bands because there are many good ones in Philippines. I watched the show of Bamboo by chance when I was in Cowboy Grill. And I was surprised at their performance. I did not know what to say at that time. It was, indeed, perfect for me. Though I don’t understand tagalog, it was enough to make me feel good. I play the electric guitar and love to play hard rocks of UK and USA.

By the way, I’m also interested in taking photos in my free time. I’m looking for a bag to carry out my digital single-lens reflex camera. I wana buy one that is made for a camera. So if possible, I would like you to tell me where to buy.

    Thanks,

    Hi Paul,

Yes there are a lot of good bands here :)

If you’re in Manila, go to Hidalgo St. and look for either Henry’s or Mayer Photo :)

    Hi Karla,

Thanks for the mini-review of this film. I’m an avid fan of Stepehn King’s stories (especially his short stories) that end up into great movies like The Shawshank Redemption (excellent film), Stand By Me, Cujo, and the likes. I like this short story in his compilation, Everything’s Evenual, along with Autopsy Room Four.

Might as well watch this movie sometime this weekend, while it’s still showing in Singapore. :-D

And for others, add the numbers of 1408 and the sum describes overall the dreadfulness of the haunted hotel room.

    Hi Karla,

Thanks for this mini-review of the film. Might as well watch it this weekend while it’s still showing in SG.
I’m an avid fan of Stephen King’s writing (especially his short stories). This one I’ve read in his compilation Everything’s Eventual, along with his other good ones like Autopsy Room Four.

If it’s not yet obvious, add the numbers 1408 and you get the magic number that best describes the haunted hotel room.

Being a big Stephen King fan that I am, I still haven’t seen the movie, but I heard all the buzz all around the blogworld for the past few months now.

I saw the trailer and it may actually be a good one.. Thanks for the rating.. anyway, Stephen King is Stephen King

I’m huge fan of Stephen King, but so far I only enjoyed in his books because the movies just couldn’t make the same level of atmosphere as his books can. But since Rose Red and now Disturbia I really look forward to next movie with his idea.

Oops, your other post confused me. I meant 1408 there, not Disturbia.
