Remembering Alamid

Alamid is a Manila-based band composed of Gary Ignacio, Thallie Facelo, Dex Facelo, Gail Ignacio, Paku Herrera, and Roel Mangyao. Their debut self-titled album was released in 1994. Songs included in the said album are: Nasaan Ka Katarungan (Where Is the Justice), Sixteen, Candle in the Rain, Your Love, China Eyes, May Pag-Asa Pa (There’s Still a Chance), Echoing Silence, I Just Wasn’t Brave Enough, Chaotic World, and Still Believe in Magic. Amongst these songs, Your Love and China Eyes are the songs that we would easily recall everytime we hear the band Alamid. Songs from their second album Panaginip which was released in 1995 are: Sama-Sama (All Together), Batibot (Slang for Little Kids), I Love to Know, Paano Na Ngayon (What About Now), Listen, Night Creatures, Panaginip (Dream), Love is over Now, Hesus (Jesus), Sama-Sama (All Together) [Acoustic Version], Merry Xmas?, and Batibot (Backing Tracks) (Slang for Little Kids). This mp3 track is a rendition of Alamid’s Your Love by my friends Pam (vocals) and Lhette (guitar and backup vocals).

  2. Cool, nice cover. :) I had a tape of Alamid’s first album, one of the best nung time na yun. Ganda talaga ng “Your Love” and most of the other songs on that album. Couldn’t find them on CDs nor mp3 though. :(

Karla, it was nice to finally meet you last Monday. Next time ulit! :)

  3. hi markku :)
    well sana magrelease ulit ;)

  4. Nice post! Just want to make some minor clarifications though..

“Still Believe in Magic” should really be “Still Believe in Love”.

“Love is over Now” should be “Love’s over Now”…

    I know, i’m guilty for being a stickler for details… So shoot me… :D

These guys are one of the greatest Pinoy bands I have ever had the pleasure of meeting and listening to (way back when it was still Gary Ignacio, Jay Dominic Sto.Tomas, Efryl De Dios, Dexter and Thallie Facelo, and Perry Jocson).

I just wish they got more help from their recording company (Warner Music Phils) when they were soaring high with “Your Love”. I was hoping they would be able to break into the international scene (i mean, these guys had HUGE potential, and their recording company didn’t even see it)!

Well, so much for my nostalgia trip… Keep on Rockin’ dudes! :D

  28. Joyce (MemoryGap)

I want to thank Jex Herradura for those inspiring words and tips you shared with my band! (Miquel’s gig) That was really so wonderful of you! And believe me, IKAW ANG PINAKA-MAGALING NA DRUMMER NA NAKITA KO! I’ve been telling you ur better than Mike Portnoy, call me crazy but im serious! ALAMID is soooo great! And im so grateful and indebted to have seen you guys! That was my first time na nag enjoy ako sobra! After so many bands… you guys are really awesome!!!

    P.S.
Jex, u really captured my heart! Hehehe

  29. Hi,
Alamid members are friends of mine. I just want to provide the nearest English translations of the Alamid songs written in Filipino.

And thanks for writing about them. They–along with Half Life Half Death and Sugar Hiccup–were really one of the torchbearers of New Wave music in the ’90s Grunge-dominated Alternative music scene in the Philippines (at least in Metro Manila).

1.”Nasaan Ka, Katarungan?” = “Where Are You, Justice?”

2.”May Pag-asa Pa” = There’s Still Hope” [chance is closer to 'pagkakataon']

3.’Batibot’ is not a slang, but is actually a Tagalog word for ‘tot,’ meaning “little, energetic child.”

4.”Paano Na Ngayon?” = “How Would It Be Now?”

  30. Black Dredd Shirter

Hi Gary and Dex!
Alex is the name :)
Dex if you still want the shirt, pwede ko na bigay sayo ngayon hehe. That time gusto ko talaga ibigay sayo kaso wala akong extra na damit pauwi hehe. But it would be my honor na makitang suot mo yun :D

    To all

To you Gary and Dex, keep it up and more power sa inyo. Sana gumawa pa kayo ng maraming kanta na magpapasaya sa maraming tao. I’ve got this dream na maka compose ng kanta para sa inyo. Something that would still live in people’s hearts even wala na tayo sa mundong ito, gaya ng “Your Love”. (bigat! haha)

    Mabuhay kayo : )
