Ely Buendia has a new band and its name is Pupil. I was able to catch them play for the first time at Kiko Machine’s Bar Tour at 6 Underground. The remaining members of the pencil-brand-inspired band decided to form a new band after they disbanded last May 2005. Pupil consists of Bogs Jugo, Dok Sergio, Ely Buendia, and Yan Yuzon (starred in Sponge Cola’s Gemini music video). Pupil holds a regular monthly production dubbed as Livestock which is held every last Saturday of the month. They either play at Saguijo or at Gweilo’s Eastwood. In their monthly production they usually play with bands like Sponge Cola, Kiko Machine, Menaya, Tawo, Sleepyheads and more. Check out Pupil’s Official Website for more information on the band.

ang galing ng ‘beautiful machines’! pupil definitely sounds like no other band in the local music scene today. and that’s what i’ve always admired about ely buendia, now joined by like-minded and equally talented individuals yan, dok and bogs. he always, always, dishes out music that is original and DISTINCT. yun ang kelangan natin, di yung puro covers, puro remakes, puro standard rock ballads na pare-pareho na ang tunog. and fortunately, aside from pupil, there are other OPM bands/artists who are living up to the challenge. OPM astig!
Please naman, tama na yang Eheads na yan! Kung talagang fans kayo ni Ely, hayaan nyo siyang mag-explore ng mga bagong horizons sa pagsulat ng kanta at paggawa ng musika! Alam nyo ba kung ga’no kahirap ang makulong o makahon sa isang identity dahil lamang FIXATED ang mga tao sa identity na yun? Kawawa naman si Ely, hindi maka-move on at kinakanta pa rin ang “Alapaap” sa mga gigs dahil sa mga fans na katulad nyo na hindi na umunlad sa pakikinig ng musika!
I’m not saying that you people should like Pupil. I’m just saying stop the Ely and Eheads flashbacks, wala namang patutunguhan yan eh.
Kung ayaw nyo sa Pupil, edi makinig kayo sa iba. Makinig kayo ng Cueshe o ng Orange and Lemons (biglang nagsuka…).
Hello. Ewan ko kung paano ako napadpad sa site na ito.. Pero idol ko rin si Ely nung kindergarten days ko pa.. mga 3 years old pa lang ako araw araw kong kinakanta yung “Ang Huling El Bimbo” tapos my sister used to teach me the dance.. So until now, 10 years na ang nakalipas.. I still love the Eheads kasi sila yung nagturo sakin na kumanta. I want them to reunite. But I am very much happy and satisfied sa mga ginagawa nila sa mga bago nilang banda. Let’s just be thankful na even though a lot have come and go, nandyan pa rin ang totoong magagaling, magkawatak watak man, still there to bring good music. And sa Pupil, they’re the most diverse band I’ve seen and I really really love them! I hope they win sa SOP Pasiklaband, they really deserve it. You know, all the hard work that Ely and the rest of the band did, there’s no harm in appreciating naman right?
Nobody (or nothing) can bring a true artist down. Ely is living proof.

Ely’s old now-erased band has been one of the reason why i gotten into rock music, pero nung KINDERGARTEN palang ako nun. history na yun mga people, FACE IT! nagbreakup ang Eheads?? edi walang problema! ang maiiwan parin at the end of the day ay ang TORCH-BEARER ng band na yun in the first place. kaya (TO ALL EHEADS FANS) WAG kayong ma-despair kung nagkawatak man sila AT LEAST alive at kicking at continue parin na gumagawa ng isa sa mga magagaling at ORIGINAL na music sa pinas. mahirap ang ma-stick sa isang stereotypical na genre ang isang band mahirap ang pressure, kaya kaylangan talaga nilang mag-evolve at mag-respetuhan sa isa’t-isa upang mag-carry on ang buhay nila sa scene. we just can’t stay the same, we need to change and grow to enjoy what we are doing. ganun din sa mga fans kung talagang die-hard kayo WAG nyong tignan sa name or line-up ng band perspective, tignan nyo sa productivity at CREATIVITY ng isang artist. boon yun sa bagong moved on, charged up, stereo-breaker band ni ely na P U P I L; the most underrated and diverse rock band in the lids of pinas. astig talaga si ELLY (i would like to name him like that coz he’s the hero!!!m/) kasi napanatilihan nya na MABUHAY parin sa music scene at na-manage nya na mag-evolve and napanatilihan nilang maging creatively MATURE, at the same time, YOUNG (not stupidly) and ruling ang approach sa music nila. pinurchase ko ung original ng BEATIFUL MACHINES, at im blown away unexpectedly which for me took Elly into his KING status. sana final na PUPIL rules!!!m/

I’m a big fan of the Eraserheads since my elementary days. I’m now 25 years old but still idolizes them especially ELY BUENDIA. I’ve met him in person during their gig in PBMIT. Whatever path you choose, I and all the fans are behind you. Good luck!

The Mongols members are Yan Yuzon (bass guitarist/vocalist, brother of Yael Yuzon of Spongecola), Bogs Jugo (drums, also a member of the band Day Dream Cycle), Jerome Velasco (lead guitarist, former The Teeth Axeman), and Jesus “Dizzy” Ventura (vocalist/guitarist, a.k.a. Ely Buendia). The reason why The Mongols was disbanned way back on May 2005… coz’ they’ve lost their lead guitarist, Jerome Velasco and after a year, Ely back with a new band called Pupil.
Pupil is consist of Yan Yuzon (lead guitarist/vocalist), Bogs Jugo (drums/vocalist), Dok Sergio (bass guitarist/vocalist, brother of Japs Sergio, bass guitarist of Rivermaya and Bogs’ bandmate on Day Dream Cycle), and Ely Buendia (volcalist/guitarist).
The band name ‘Pupil’ was came from a medical book read by Ely (and not a student). He like the fact that Pupil is a part of an eye (of course we know it!) where the light comes in. As he broached the name to his bandmates, everyone agreed. It seems like ‘Seeing light in Pupil’… he he he!!!
Whatever Ely will do, i still appreciate it.
His past band, The Mongols, Ely’s music have become more heavy… and i like it!
On the other hand, Pupil’s music taste has been more mature. Actually, Ely describe his music as dark but romantic, which is true.
When you heared all the songs of Pupil in their debut album “Beautiful Machines”, well, it’s all about love, hope, sacrifice. But in the song ‘Nasaan Ka?’,
it’s about love but the true meaning behind that song is regret. It was dedicated to his grandma Lola Coz, just passed away last year.
‘Dulo ng Dila’ (sung and penned by Dok Sergio) is about of being a ‘torpe’. The chorus of that song is like this… “Hindi na baleng ‘di marinig/ hindi na baleng ‘di mabatid/ basta’t nasabi aking dibidib/ mensahe na wala namang laman”.
And last but not the least… all I can say is…
