Starbucks Planner and My Incredible Nephews

Finally, I have acquired my Starbucks Planner. Thanks to my friends who helped me. I have dedicated a credits space for all of you on my planner which is located on the front page. Hehe! And just the same, no one can ever make me drink a peppermint mocha even if it’s for a planner. So I’d like to thank Billie and the gang and also my Dad for helping me out.

While I was out yesterday with the goal of completing the stub with my ultimate Starbucks buddies, my nephews watched Lastikman which is a rip-off of some American comic superhero according to Psychicpants.

My nephews arrived around lunch time with their Dad (my brother) and they found some gifts for them underneath our Christmas tree. They got some watercolor stuff which means that we have to teach them how to paint. However, we were afraid that they might transform the walls from white to assorted. We should know that because when we were kids, we were not contented with bond papers as our canvas. Thus, we used walls as our canvas since the space is not limited. Because of that, my parents put up a blackboard on our garage and provided us with some chalk so that we could just draw there instead of vandalizing our walls. After being successful with that, they repainted the walls again and covered our drawings of stick figures with white paint.

They have also received a gift from our cousin. They got action figures of The Incredibles (Mr. Incredible, Elastigirl, Baby Jack Jack, Violet, and Dash). And of course they immediately played with it. Justin got Mr. Incredible, Violet and Dash. Lance got Baby Jack Jack and Elastigirl. While playing with the action figures, my sister asked them to imitate Baby Jack Jack when he became the Human Torch. Hehe.

So… Happy Gay Together

This film stars the oh-so-annoying Kris Aquino, the brilliant Eric Quizon, and the more irritating Jennylyn Mercado, Yasmien Kurdi, Jay-ar, Mark Herras and Rainier Castillo. Hmmm… do I smell Starstruck blood here? This film is produced under Regal Films which is quite obvious even if you do not see its famous logo where the R and the crown actually means “Reyna ng MMFF” (in English: Queen of Metro Manila Film Festival) since they have 3 entries to the said film festival. Joel Lamangan directed this film.

The story is about friendship of Lianne (Kris Aquino) and Osmond (Eric Quizon). The movie starts with a gay parade where Lianne and Osmond met because Lianne was already interrupting the parade for criticizing the dress worn by one of them. In this film, you’d see issues such as a gay in an office setup, gay lovers and some issues like having a dysfunctional family, being left by a lover, parents being unusually strict, and a lot more.

Even though there are some parts that instigated me to give a What-a-la-Dove-commercial reaction, the story in general is a good one since it really emphasized on their friendship. Their friendship can be described as the grow-old-with-you type. There are some dialogues in the film that are witty and funny. For example, Osmond said (referring to Lianne),

“Parang instant coffee ma-in love… Isang sawsaw pa lang… go na…”

I hope I remembered the last few words correct. Hehe! Also, there are some issues in friendship being tackled such as the insecurity of one friend towards another because the other was an achiever. In addition to that, you’d see how they are generous to each other.

I still can’t figure out why a nagger role would always go to Kris Aquino. They could always get another actress like Lorna Tolentino or Maricel Soriano. Jay-ar could have been replaced by someone else and that goes the same for the Starstruck people. I could not feel what they have to feel in the way they say their dialogues. Only Eric Quizon and Nova Villa (played the role of Osmond’s mute mother) have truly performed their roles well.

However, there are still unnecessary scenes in the movie and some lines in the dialogue as well. Chunkee corned beef does it again. Does Gloria Diaz have to say Chunkee Corned beef when she could just say corned beef. Also, they really have to focus the camera on the product.

In the last part of the film, it was so obvious that the budget was almost used up. Just imagine this, receiving a trophy that looks like carton that is painted with gold. My golly, can’t they buy a decent trophy at Recto? Or, they could have just borrowed a decent-looking trophy.

Lastly, the editing is not that good. It needs more polishing.

Jeepney

Jeepney is a song from Sponge Cola’s album Palabas. And since the Holidays are not yet that over since we still have all the Christmas aftershock, this would be my not-so-late Christmas gift for Ynah. Posted are the chords of Jeepney by Sponge Cola. When you read the lyrics of Jeepney carefully, you will certainly have the impression that it is an I’m not over with my Ex type of song. It’s like you recall the good old days and then suddenly rant that the relationship has reached its expiration date. And more mushiness revealed on the chorus part. Read the full entry to view the lyrics and the chords.

YOU Blog Addict and more

I didn’t know that I was featured yesterday at Inq7.Net‘s Blog Addict. And truly, this is one of the best Christmas gifts that I have received. Thanks Joey.

Okay, for the other gifts, I got a book from my brother and a pair of sunglasses as well. The book is The Pilgrimage by Paulo Coelho who wrote one of my favorites which is The Alchemist. Then, I got a bag from my brother’s girlfriend. And oh, my sister didn’t give me a gift but gave me 200 bucks instead to buy whatever I want.

A weird place to see a TV star is at a convenience store at Cainta. We stopped by since my brother needed to go to the bathroom and it was nearing lunch time. As soon as they were done buying some food from Wendy’s, we saw Francis M. and his daughter Maxine walked out of 7-11. She’s really beautiful even without the make-up.

The Simpsons

The Simpsons is one of my favorite cartoon series. Some time ago when it was shown at RPN-9, I religiously followed it. And when it was also shown at Star World (shown after The Wonder Years), I also followed the show. The Simpsons never fails to cheer me up. And now, because of DVD technology, I can now watch again the said animated series without all those commercial breaks and not missing an episode unlike before.

I was able to watch the first three episodes which provided me some trivia on the origins of this and that. If you know Santa’s Little Helper, which is quite a long name for a dog, made his first appearance on the first episode. They acquired Santa’s Little Helper when they went home after the canine racing where he lost. And to think that they didn’t understand the odds of 99-1 for Santa’s Little Helper which I guess really mean the other way around. Also, in the first episode, the sisters of Marge (Patty and Selma) were introduced and of course, Ned and Todd Flanders (their rich neighbor which made the house of The Simpsons look like a beer house (since most beer houses that I saw have Christmas lights all-year-round) and their display would really reflect on how rich they are.

In the second episode, nothing much happened. It’s the episode where he swaps the IQ test with Martin Prince (the class genius and the ultimate teacher’s pet and the number one class choo-choo) and as for his karma, he was tricked by his classmates at the school of gifted kids so that they would get his lunch and he ended up confessing the truth.

In the third episode, Mr. Burns and Smithers are introduced. This is the episode when Homer Simpson got fired because of causing another accident in the plant. He was about to kill himself by tying his body to a huge rock and drown himself in the water when his family dissuaded him from doing so. After that, he became a safety activist. Then, Springfield became the ultimate signs-for-your-safety town. After that, Homer went to the Nuclear Plant which Mr. Burns owns. He was able to got back at his job.

Wishlist of a Tech Savvy

iPod Photo – a gadget for a sentimental music lover. And as its tagline says, “Why should your ears have all the fun?” Indeed, iPod Photo will not only satisfy your ears but your eyes as you get sentimental viewing your baby pictures on the said gadget that is not bigger than a deck of cards. Just imagine, you can store up to 15,000 songs or up to 25,000 photos which is better than bringing a bulky discman and another bulky CD holder with a capacity of about 15 to 20 CDs, and also bulky photo albums. Also, it’s more than just a gadget that can play music and can view photos. You can also keep your appointments there and save your contacts as well. In addition to that, there’s also a calendar and to-do lists. But wait, there’s more! You can record voice notes there which comes really handy if you’re going to interview someone or if you just want to pursue your dreams of becoming a disc jockey or a sportscaster.

Canon Powershot A75 – Ideal camera for the amateur photographer. I know there are a lot of newer models than this one but this model has certainly captured my attention. Not just because it is relatively cheaper than the newer models but because of its features. With Canon Powershot A75, you have the option to be the lazy photographer or be the creative photographer. When I say lazy, what I mean is that you just have to be a trigger happy–click here, and there. When I say creative, what I mean is that you’re experimenting shots using the manual modes. However, the model is somewhat old school for using rechargeable AA batteries which will remind you of your younger days when you were still hooked into RC Cars.

Also, it has a 3x optical zoom and a 3.2x digital zoom. In addition to that, you will not be limited to taking still photos only. You will also be able to record some video clips which will enable you to send your funniest home videos on the web. Isn’t that neat?

Crazy for You

This song who was first popularized by Madonna has been one of my favorites. Local bands such as Imago and Sponge Cola have their own versions of the song. When I’m in a videoke, Crazy for You would be always part of my “set list” unless they don’t have that song which is unlikely to happen. Also, when I’m playing the guitar at home, I almost always play this song. Read more to see the chords and the lyrics of Crazy for You. I’m not 100 percent sure of the Intro though. If ever, that will be my version for its intro. Hehe!

The Terminal

What is it like to be having no country, no citizenship, and being denied to step on the American soil? In the film The Terminal, you will know what it is like to be such. I just watched this film this afternoon. The main cast of the film are Tom Hanks and Catherine Zeta-Jones. And since Tom Hanks tops on the list of my favorite Western actors, in this film, you will be able to find out why.

Tom Hanks is Viktor Navorski, who went to the United States to tour the New York City with his good old Planters Peanuts Can to which according to him in some accounts when he was asked what’s inside the can is,

“My father”

“Jazz”

And if you’re a what-I-see-and-hear-is-what-I-understand person, then you better read between the lines. The Planters Peanuts Can is a metaphor that Viktor Navorski used. It represents his father and his music inclination which is Jazz. And he went all the way to the United States just to have Benny Golson signed on a piece of paper and keep it in his can. Viktor, keeping a can of peanuts, made the Paranoid airport official thought that Viktor escaped from a certain institution (mental hospital perhaps).

However, Viktor’s character here is somewhat of a goody-goody type. Just imagine, he was given a tip that at 12noon, there will be no one guarding the gates and that they will be 5 minutes late. He was right there, just in front of the door, staring at it and he still did not go out. I’m pretty sure that if someone was given such opportunity, they won’t hesitate escaping and won’t even give a damn about the security camera.

Also, there was a part in the film where Viktor decided to escape since his One Day Emergency Visa was not signed by the Pathetic Airport official just to fulfill his promise to his father. In this part, all the guards surrounded the gates with some airport employees behind Viktor. He was quietly standing there as if he was thinking,

“I got busted.”

But it turned out that it was a sort of a despedida thing prepared by the guards where one of them even gave him his jacket because of the winter. Can you just imagine that almost all of the employees risked losing their jobs? In this kind of situation, I don’t expect everyone to be so united. I even expect that there will be some who would prevent Viktor from escaping. Apparently, there’s only one “The Grinch” in this film.

Also, like other commercial films, the injection of love stories was expected and some advertisements from sponsors. For instance, when Viktor was eating at Burger King, and also the part when he was looking for a suit to buy at Hugo Boss. In addition to that, there was a part where he was standing near Starbucks Coffee.

The acting that Tom Hanks showcased here is brilliant. Just imagine, learning to speak Bulgarian with a Bulgarian accent is tough. It reminded me of the days when he was Forrest Gump where he had a cowboy-like accent. And he maintained the accent even when he was speaking in English.
